Nowadays, bathrooms come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, and a well designed bathroom with elegant features can go a long way to improving the image of your home. With a whole host of bathroom accessories and bathroom furniture ranging from decorative basin and bath taps, a single shower cubicle, power showers and even designer radiators, bathroom suites everywhere are blessed with an abundance of products to suit all tastes and styles.

For those of you with small bathrooms with a bathtub that is taking up a lot of space, but is only ever used for taking showers, then this presents the best space saving opportunity when it comes to improving the functionality of your bathroom. Consider removing the bathtub and replacing it with a shower cubicle, complete with a shower tray and a shower enclosure.

If you have a bathroom radiator taking up useful space in your bathroom you have the option of installing designer radiators. Although some can be costly, they can be smaller and more efficient than old style radiators. They are tailored to complement your bathroom accessories and bathroom furniture.

If you have a free standing bathroom mirror consider replacing it will a wall mirror that not only takes up less space, but when positioned properly can actually make bathrooms look larger than they really are; the bathroom mirror can also become a feature focal point.

To complete your bathroom, consider elegant touches to your wash basin, such as decorative basin taps, and make use of the thousands of exquisite bathroom accessories that are available in most home improvement stores.

When designing a cloakroom bathroom suite, space is the obvious imperative. With sometimes significantly less room than a full-size bathroom, one may find him/herself compromising on any number of design details including colour, fixtures, and wall design. There are brands, though, that anticipate the specific needs of the cloakroom bathroom and design bathroom cabinets, basins, and toilets with space limitations in mind. Consumers, then, don’t have to sacrifice functionality or design in their cloakroom bathrooms.

Bauhaus makes several space-saving cloakroom bathroom basins including the rectangular Hey II, Cascade, Alicante, Bergamo, Turin, Gomera, Genoa, and Space models and the rounded Dalla, Manesis, Jerez, and Dublin models. All reflect Bauhaus’ commitment to innovative design and exacting quality standards. For those looking for a complete cloakroom bathroom solution, Bauhaus also offers consumers a Furniture Solution which includes a mirror and a cabinet with built-in basin.

For those looking for a bit more traditional elegance – as opposed to Bauhaus’ identifiably clean lines – brands like Imperial Bathrooms have several bathroom basins designed specifically for cloakroom bathrooms. These include their Westminster, a wall-mounted porcelain sink with antique gold brassware, and the Astoria, which is set upon an elegant pedestal and accented with chrome taps.

Finally, the Roca line of cloakroom sinks are among the most distinctive on the market today. Their Dama, Giralda, Sydney, Meridian, and Georgia models all have elegant porcelain pipe coverings, smooth basin lines, and cool chrome taps. Their Cloakroom and Sanitaryware Cloakroom have exposed pipes and thinner basins for those wanting maximum chrome exposure and low-profile lines.

It is important that you choose a toilet that is right for you. There are many styles available, and you will need to find one that fits your bathroom perfectly. A toilet with a round front may be more ideal for smaller bathrooms. There are different types of toilets that are easier to clean, such as a one-piece toilet. Choosing a toilet that is harder to clean will be more time consuming and may lead to it not being cleaned properly.

There are toilets that have been designed to fight bacteria and stop mould from spreading. These toilets are built with a special glaze to help prevent condensation. Like the one-piece toilet, this type of toilet is easier to maintain and will help you to have a cleaner bathroom.

If you do not have much space, then opting for a space saving toilet is the best idea. These types of toilets often come with matching seats and covers, which helps your bathroom to keep its theme and look neater. Plumbworld offers space saving toilets, though their selection is currently only available in white.

If a toilet has a matching seat or cover that you do not like, then you can swap them for a different style. Toilet seats are not too expensive and come in a variety of styles. Plumbworld offer a wide selection of designer toilet seats in a variety of styles, including black mosaic seats, starfish seats for an aquatic theme and even a football style seat, which is suitable for children.

En-suite bathrooms are the ideal option for anyone who has a large house and would like to have an extra bathroom fitted. If you have children or share a house with friends, then an en-suite bathroom will allow you to have more privacy. It is perfect for those who dislike sharing bathrooms and are looking for their own place to retreat and relax after a hard day at work.

En-suites are usually attached to master bedrooms in larger houses and If you have a small home, then adding one may not be a good idea. Seeking advice from experienced bathroom design companies is the best option, as they will be able to help you with planning and assist with the building and installation work.

The size of your en-suite bathroom will depend on how much space you have to play with. If you are looking for a simple place to relax and have some privacy then a small en-suite would be ideal. If, on the other hand, you are looking for something more luxurious, then you will need to have lots of space. If you cannot afford one, then opt for something smaller and use furniture that will give the room the impression of having lots of space. For example, wall-hung sinks, small lights and combined sinks and cabinets.

Have a look at existing rooms, to get an idea of what you can expect for your money. There are many stores that have showrooms where you can have a look around and decide what would look best. These stores usually offer advice for free, so discuss with them what look you wish to achieve and see if they can help you create your ideal en suite bathroom.

In very many houses the bathroom is indeed quite small with larger space having been allocated to living and eating than has been awarded to functional activities; so for many householders, space is certainly at a premium in the bathroom.

However, this does not mean that you cannot still enjoy a full range of facilities. There are some spaces saving tips which will help you to make the most out of the space you do have available.

First of all if space is very tight, then you should look at installing a close coupled toilet since this will save you space in terms of how far the toilet projects into the room.

Next, it is also possible to buy baths which are slightly shorter than normal, but still an adequate length (unless you are exceptionally tall). These are often narrower as well, so allowing you to get that extra bit of space next to, or at the end of, the bath.

Consider installing a shower over your bath and then fitting a bath / shower screen to make sure that the water is contained.

Fit a countertop wash hand basin and, if space is really tight, then consider installing the wash hand basin in the corner. Storage space can then be created underneath the basin, enabling you to completely maximise your space.

Finally, consider fitting a towel rail over your radiator or have a heated towel rail adjacent to the toilet. Therefore, you can have all the luxury of a modern bathroom even in the tiniest of spaces.
